In 1988, the India’s trade body and chamber of commerce of the Information Technology-Business Process Outsourcing industry then the NASCOM was establish to facilitate business and trade across the country’s software and services industries. The association has over 1,200 members which include the 250 global companies. With an e-mail interview with the ZDNet Asia, the Natarajan discussed the challenges facing the Indian Information Technology-ITES industry and underscored the need for a local companies to innovate and reinvent themselves for India to remain the preferred outsourcing destination.
There is a top priorities as the new chief, they have identified the six key themes. Their agenda for the financial year includes issues like tapping opportunities through the innovation, building communities of best practices, adopting green Information Technology, societal development and the education and skills building. All of the challenges of the growth and a good problem to have a hand. The US slowdown and rupee appreciation and short-term challenges. The Indian IT-ITES industry will continue to maintain a healthy growth rate and well on its way to achieve the US$60 billion mark.
In the short term, the US slowdown is impacting the industry and in the long run, the Indian IT-ITES sectors will continue to maintain a healthy growth rate. The companies are making firm level efforts to counter the challenge, the key is innovation. The traditionally successful sourcing model comes under strain, companies need to reinvent themselves and innovate for India to remain the preferred sourcing destination. Between the hardware, software and service the commoditization of Information Technology advent of the new disruptive technologies and the blurring of the distinction. The need for the Indian Information Technology industry to move toward a more consumer-centric business model. The only way to do that is through innovation.
The large and growing talent pool remains a key differentiator for the India as a global sourcing destination and the fundamental driver of its IT-BPO growth. The Information Technology sector continues to grow and develop the new competencies, talent suitability is becoming a concern. The companies have the adequately addressed the challenges through their own efforts around recruitment and training. The demand continuous to grow exponentially it is becoming difficufor the industry to address this challenges. The NASSCOM has led the several initiatives for the narrowing the gap between the industry and the talent. They launched Nasscom’s Assessment of Competence as an industry standard assessment and certification program to ensure the transformation of a trainable workforce into an employable workforce in order to create a robust and continuous pipeline of talent for Business Process Outsourcing sector.
