India tops global outsourcing nations list

By CyberMedia Global Services and advisory firm, finding released of the Tholons pegged India’s IT-BPO, business process outsourcing export services revenue at US$40 billion in 2008 and listed the six Indian cities as Bangalore, Delhi NCR or National Capital Region, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune.  The other two cities are the Philippines, Manila NCR and Ireland’s Dublin City.  With the Philippines and China among the top 5, in the list of top outsourcing nations India came out top. Last year, the study found there were minimal shifts in rankings this year with the global recession slowing down the pace of outsourcing activity.

From US$1.9 trillion to US$1.7 trillion even though there is a decrease in global FDI or Foreign Direct Investment, India’s FDI inflow posted the largest increase globally at 46 percent in 2008.  The emerging destinations are also vying for a share of the outsourcing pie.  The dynamics between these destinations is ultimately determined by a host of factors which are forms the basis of the study.  The study is a study in globalization at its most granular level.  The search for an outsourcing destination is not just about the lower cost.  It must consider a location, risk mitigation for business, cultural affinity and scalability of the skilled workforce.

Due to cut throat competition and market saturation, the service providers need to think through offerings so as to differentiate as competitive advantage is rapidly vanishing.  The global outsourcing landscape has evolved significantly in the last five years.  Between the perceptions of offshore destination and actual assessments, an increase in complexity and wide-scale expansion in both locations and outsourced processes has brought about differences.

India is the top in outsourcing industry, it is one of the hottest destination when it comes to outsourcing.  Although people hear every now and then that Indian Outsourcing Industry is facing tremendous competition from China, it does not seem to be reality.   The India has reiterated the fact that it is the top Outsourcing Destination with the 6 out of the top 8 global outsourcing cities.
